Invited by the Zayed Prize as the winner of the 2020 Zayed Prize (energy category – for the “Light for the Rohingyas” project), Electriciens sans frontières will take advantage of its presence at COP 28 in Dubai to take the floor to promote and share the inclusive, carbon-free solutions for access to electricity and water that the NGO has been able to implement in various countries.
IN THE FACE OF THE CLIMATE CRISIS, WE ARE PURSUING OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR ACCESS TO ELECTRICITY AND WATER FOR EVERYONE IN THE WORLD.
Through the1st Global Assessment of national commitments made by States at COP 21 in Paris in 2015, COP 28 will draw lessons from these 8 years and set a new course. Electriciens sans frontières is once again demonstrating that there are reliable, sustainable solutions for providing or restoring access to electricity using solar power, which emits very little greenhouse gas.
FROM MITIGATION TO ADAPTATION, OUR ACTION MODELS MEET TODAY'S CHALLENGES
Today’s crises – inflation, wars (notably in Ukraine) and the multiplication of extreme climatic events – threaten the progress made to date in the fight against climate change. Yet they also underline the importance of a sustainable energy transition. More than ever, access to electricity and water is vital for the populations affected. From agrivoltaics in Benin to photovoltaic hybrid systems in Ukraine, Electriciens sans frontières is developing projects to improve access to energy for the most vulnerable populations and make them more resilient, while protecting the climate.

“Agrivoltaics, an innovative solution for increasing resilience in the face of climate change”.
The aim of this event is to provide a platform for discussion, sharing of results and exchange of ideas on the relationship between agriculture and solar energy production, as well as on the benefits, challenges and opportunities of agrivoltaics in the context of the fight against climate change, by putting into perspective field experiences developed in France and in developing countries.

AGRIPOWHER is a development project aimed at strengthening the resilience of farmers, and more specifically women farmers, while demonstrating the technical and economic viability of an off-grid agrivoltaic system. The project includes a strong research component, organized on several levels: definition of the crops best suited to the agrivoltaic system in Benin, socio-economic impacts, etc.). The agrivoltaic installation will also serve as a living-lab for the theoretical and practical training of selected women farmers.
